Frequently asked questions
What Bedside is, and what it is not.
Is Bedside a medical device?
No. Bedside is an educational simulation tool for nursing students. It does not diagnose, treat, monitor, or prevent any medical condition. It is not a clinical decision support tool, a diagnostic aid, or a substitute for clinical judgment. Bedside has not been reviewed or cleared by the FDA or any equivalent regulatory body. No such clearance is required — it is not a medical device.
Does Bedside provide medical advice?
No. The AI patient responses and post-session feedback are for educational practice only. Nothing in the app is clinical guidance or a recommendation for patient care. Follow your clinical instructors and supervising practitioners.
Can I use Bedside to make decisions about real patients?
No. Bedside is for practicing communication skills in a simulated environment. It must not be used in real clinical settings with actual patients. The AI scenarios are fictional.
What does Bedside actually do?
You speak out loud with an AI patient. The patient responds in real time based on what you say. After the session, you get feedback on your clinical reasoning scored against the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (NCJMM). The goal is to have the hard conversations before you are standing in front of a real patient.
Who is Bedside for?
Pre-licensure nursing students, 18 and older, from your first clinical rotation through NCLEX prep. Works across BSN, ABSN, ADN, and entry-level MSN programs. It is a practice aid, similar to a skills lab simulator. Not for licensed nurses, healthcare providers, or anyone making decisions about real patient care.
Is the AI feedback clinically validated?
No. Feedback is generated by Google Vertex AI Gemini and is designed to be educationally useful, not clinically validated. Use scores as a learning guide alongside your coursework and instructor feedback — not as a competency assessment.
Does the app access health records or send data to healthcare systems?
No. Bedside does not connect to any EHR system, hospital network, or patient database. No real patient data is processed or stored. See our Privacy Policy for what we do collect.
